Compact tool for pinpointing compressed air and gas leaks, even in noisy environments.


Ultrasonic leaks generate high-frequency sound (above human hearing). The WA-EUS-740 detects these ultrasonic emissions and converts them into an audible tone, helping maintenance teams quickly locate leak sources and verify issues on the spot.

With leakage intensity indication and audible feedback, the WA-EUS-740 helps identify compressed air losses, seal failures, and other ultrasonic events with fast, practical field diagnostics.


Theory of Ultrasonic Gas Leakage Detection


Ultrasonic sound (above 20 kHz) is highly directional and is created by turbulence when gas flows from a higher-pressure region to a lower-pressure region through a small opening. This directional characteristic allows accurate pinpointing of the leak location.

Where the WA-EUS-740 fits

This is the instrument to specify when leak detection needs to become a routine rather than a project. The LED intensity bar and audible tone are deliberately simple — a maintenance technician can be productive with it in minutes, which matters far more in practice than any specification, because the detector that gets carried on the weekly round is the one that finds leaks.

It detects the ultrasound generated when gas escapes from a higher-pressure region through a small opening. Because that signal is above 20 kHz and plant machinery noise is not, the WA-EUS-740 works during normal production in a noisy hall, which is exactly when leaks are audible and exactly when a shutdown-based method cannot be used.

Getting good results from it

Ultrasound is highly directional, and that property is what you exploit:

  • Sweep slowly and watch the LED bar, not just the tone. The bar gives you relative intensity, so you can tell whether you are getting warmer as you move along a pipe run.
  • Work from a distance first, then close in. Scan a run from a few metres to find the general area, then approach to pinpoint. Starting close means walking the whole line.
  • Check the usual suspects. Quick-release couplings, filter-regulator-lubricator units, hose tails, threaded joints on drops, and any fitting that has been disturbed for maintenance.
  • Tag as you go. A leak you found on Tuesday and cannot re-find on Friday has cost you the survey time and saved nothing.

If a leak sounds loud but you cannot locate the source, suspect a leak radiating from under lagging or from inside an enclosure. The ultrasound escapes wherever the air does, which is not always where the hole is.

Turning findings into approved repairs

The gap between finding leaks and fixing them is usually a budget conversation, and the way to win it is to attach a rupee figure to each tag. Frequently asked questions

Is an ultrasonic compressed air leak detector accurate enough to size a leak?

It tells you where the leak is and how strong it is relative to others, which is what you need for prioritising. It does not measure flow. To quantify losses in Nm³/hr and rupees, combine the survey with the leak cost calculator or with system flow measurement.

Will it work on gases other than air?

Yes. The method responds to turbulence from any pressurised gas escaping through a small opening, so nitrogen, argon and similar inert gas systems behave the same way.

How does it compare to soap solution?

Soap works, but only where you can reach and see the joint, and only one joint at a time. Ultrasonic detection covers a pipe run from several metres away, works at height, and does not require you to touch anything. Soap remains useful as a final confirmation on a specific fitting.

What if my plant is extremely noisy?

That is the case ultrasonic detection is designed for. Audible plant noise sits below the frequency band the instrument listens to. If you are working near another ultrasonic source such as an open air gun, switch it off or come back to that area.
